One Of These 8 Moroccan Startups Will Snag A Chance To Win $1 Million At Seedstars Summit

On July 6th, 8 of Morocco’s best seed stage startups will compete to represent the country at the Seedstars Summit in Switzerland and win up to $1 million in equity investments and other prizes.

Morocco's capital is having Seedstars Casablanca's demo day on July 6th at LaFactory, to select a finalist to represent Morocco at Seedstars World summit happening later next year, on April 5th. The world's largest seed-stage startup competition for emerging and fast-growing markets has brought its pre-selection rounds to an end. 

Hooplacar was last year's Moroccan finalist that flew to Seedstars World competition in Switzerland, to boast about their innovative solution to connect brands with drivers creating on-vehicle advertising campaigns, live monitored through GPS tracking and marketing KPIs.

Seedstars World is closely working with Morocco-based OCP group and Avito.ma, in order to deliver the best possible event and to provide local entrepreneurs with this opportunity. "OCP is supporting Seedstars Initiative is part of the efforts of OCP promoting and fostering the Moroccan entrepreneurial Ecosystem by promoting local entrepreneurs exposition to the international entrepreneurial ecosystem, the international markets and investment capital,” says Outmane El Hassani, Director at OCP Entrepreneurship Network.

This year, the eight startups will pitch in front of El Hassani as part of a larger jury that has Mehdi Ghorfi, Partner at PGSInvest, Omar Laalej,  Senior Investment Manager at Africinvest, Ghassouli Zakaria, CEO at Avito.ma, and last but not least, Aziz Oujdi,Country Managing Director at Seedstars.

As we type, the startups are at Seedstars Casablanca's bootcamp, preparing their pitches as the demo day inches closer. Indatacore is among these startups, providing a solution based on data science, document analysis and facial biometric recognition. Whereas Medtrucks is a healthcare tech startup, making health reachable for all by deploying medical mobile units and mapping tools.

The third startup in the queue, Popaddress is a marketplace for renting short-term retail spaces. It has a simple business model where their platform connects brands and businesses with landlords for short term space rental. Whereas, Tripblan SARL offers travel guides, itineraries, and packages based on the experiences of like-minded friends and travelers.

UnitedCoin wants to replace traditional banks because they "make billions of dollars a year using our money while we receive nothing," reads their message. With that philosophy, the fintech startup provides a banking services with monthly member rewards. 

The sixth startup in line is Weego, a transit collaborative app that allows users to move easily with public transit. Valenvi, provides eco-friendly solutions to manage and recycle waste at offices, while designing and manufacturing sorted recycling bins. With a similar environmental edgeZelij Invent crafts construction products such as pavers and floor tiles using a new formula based on 80 percent of plastic waste.
