Having won Egypt's Imagine Cup, Beach Safer is now heading off to the regional competition, where they could win an all-expenses paid trip to the world finals taking place in Redmond, Seattle in July.
Microsoft Egypt has just announced three Egyptian winners of this year's Imagine Cup, a global technology competition at Ain Shams University in Cairo. Running its 16th edition, the competition aims to give young developers the opportunity to acquire new, critical, technical, business, and team-building skills.
Coming in first place, Beach Safer won a victorious EGP 30,000, and is now heading to the regional competition for the final round before the winning team heads to Seattle for a chance to win $100,000 at the Imagine Cup in July. Second and third runners-up were respectively Gather and Pharos, winning EGP 20,000 and EGP 10,000. Cash prizes were handed over by Dr. Essam Khamis, Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Azza El Shinawy, Public Sector Lead at Microsoft Egypt and Noha Labib, Education Lead at Microsoft Egypt.
“The quality of entries this year was remarkable, which is a clear indicator that technology students in Egypt are not only keeping pace with their international counterparts, but they are in a variety of ways spearheading technological innovation in the country," commented Khaled Abd El Kader, General Manager Microsoft Egypt. "At Microsoft, we are proud to provide these young tech entrepreneurs the tools and the platform they need to succeed, and more importantly, make a positive difference in the world.”
What's different about this year's Imagine Cup is that three special awards will be added to represent the current state of digital transformation, including Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, and Mixed Reality. Imaging Cup is segmented into three rounds: the national finals, regional finals, and world finals. Organised by Microsoft subsidiaries across 29 countries, the national finals select the best teams from each nation as they pitch and demo their ideas to experts for a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to the world finals taking place in Redmond, Seattle.
